Between renovation project deliveries and receiving top industry recognitions, this year has marked an exciting time for Brookfield Properties! We invite you to look back with us at some of our greatest milestones and accomplishments throughout the year beginning with the delivery of Houston Center.
Houston Center Delivery
Following a two-year redevelopment of downtown Houston’s largest asset, Brookfield Properties unveiled the completed renovations to the Houston Center campus in February. Houston Center’s premier location offered the unique opportunity for us to create a connected neighborhood in the heart of downtown Houston. Announced in January 2019, the repositioning of Houston Center was rooted on revitalizing, amenitizing, and unifying the campus into a best-in-class mixed-use destination. Working closely with the design teams at Gensler and Clark Condon, we made a significant capital investment to raise the bar in the total tenant and visitor experience at Houston Center.
Berkeley Eye Center and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic
Announced in January, Berkeley Eye Center, one of Texas’ most established comprehensive eye care facilities, and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, Houston’s leading multispecialty group practice, extended their respective leases on the fourth floor at The Shops at Houston Center.
Enwave Energy Corporation
With a strong commitment to sustainability, Brookfield Properties announced in February that it had partnered with Enwave Energy Corporation (“Enwave”), the largest core-competency district energy provider in North America, to provide cooling services to Houston Center. By replacing outdated systems and finding better efficiencies through incorporating Houston Center in Enwave’s larger district network, the new partnership will result in reducing the complex’s carbon footprint, improving water conservation, energy usage, and more.
WELL Health-Safety Rating
Brookfield Properties’ entire Houston office portfolio received the designation of being WELL Health-Safety Rated in April. Designed by public health experts, academics, business leaders, architects, building scientists, and real estate professionals, WELL Health-Safety Rating recognizes buildings that are prioritizing health and safety.
Puttshack
In July, Puttshack, an upscale, tech-infused mini golf experience with global food and drink, announced that it signed a new lease at The Shops at Houston Center. Puttshack will attract Houstonians looking for a great night out by filling its more than 26,000 square feet with four custom-made, tech-driven, highly competitive mini golf courses, powered by the brand’s leading patented Trackaball technology that keeps score for you as you play. The game play is matched by an innovative, globally inspired dining menu and full cocktail bar, as well as world-class hospitality and a high-energy, upscale nightclub vibe. Puttshack is expected to open in late 2022.
GRESB 5-star Rating
In October, it was announced that Brookfield Properties’ entire Houston office portfolio received a GRESB 5-star rating. As the industry leading ESG benchmark for real estate portfolios, Brookfield Properties scored 14 points above the average participant rating. Outperforming 83 percent of the 1,412 participants, Brookfield Properties earned the coveted 5-star rank exclusive to the top 20 percent of performers.
Alvéole
With one of our top priorities being sustainability, we are constantly implementing solutions to lower our environmental impact. In October, we announced our partnership with Alvéole, the urban beekeeping company, to provide much needed protection for honey bees. Urban beekeeping brings people together around an awe-inspiring experience through interactive, thought-provoking conferences and activities that allow for deeper conversations about sustainability. This sustainable solution inspires people and organizations to do more for the environment, with the added benefit of producing ultra-local urban honey.
